What We Do

Programs that change lives — animal and human.

Six interconnected programs work together to rescue, heal, rehome, and educate.

Animal Rescue

We pull at-risk dogs and puppies from overcrowded municipal shelters, take in owner surrenders when families can no longer cope, and respond to community calls about strays and neglect. Every intake is evaluated by our team and matched with the right foster home that day — not a kennel. This rapid placement is critical for animals coming from stressful situations and lets us focus on rehabilitation from day one.

Foster Program

Foster families are the heart of Barks of Love. We supply everything you need — food, crates, supplies, and medical coverage — and you provide a safe room or home. Fosters help us learn an animal's personality and quirks, which makes adoption matches dramatically more successful. Whether you can foster for a weekend or a few months, we will support you every step.

Adoption Program

Our adoption process is thoughtful by design. We review applications, conduct conversations rather than interrogations, and match animals to homes based on energy, experience, and lifestyle. Adopters receive a full medical record, a starter supply kit, and lifetime access to our behavior support team. We are here long after you take your new family member home.

Emergency Medical Care

From routine vaccinations and spay/neuter to life-saving emergency surgery, we work with trusted partner veterinarians to give every rescue the medical care they need — no matter the cost. Donations to our medical fund directly cover orthopedic surgery, dental care, parvo treatment, and ongoing care for special-needs animals.

Community Outreach

We host adoption events, low-cost vaccination clinics, and pet food drives throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Our outreach team works with families facing financial hardship to keep pets in their homes whenever possible — because the best rescue is the one that never has to happen.

Responsible Pet Ownership Education

Our education program brings age-appropriate humane education into local schools, scout troops, and community centers. We teach kids and adults about animal body language, lifelong care commitments, the importance of spay/neuter, and how to be a kind, attentive guardian.
