Your gift saves lives.

Barks of Love Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit (EIN 26-3647040). Donations are used exclusively to carry out our charitable mission: rescuing abandoned, neglected, and homeless animals and providing the veterinary care, foster housing, rehabilitation, and adoption services that place them in permanent homes.

Donations are voluntary gifts. Nothing is sold on this website, no goods or services are provided in exchange for a donation, and no portion of your gift funds executive salaries — our board and leadership are unpaid volunteers.

Our mission

To rescue animals in crisis across Southern California and give each one the medical care, foster support, and family matching needed to thrive in a permanent home.

Our vision

A region where no healthy or treatable animal is euthanized for lack of space, adoption is the first choice, and responsible pet guardianship is the community standard.

Why we ask

We charge no admission, sell no products, and operate no facility. Veterinary treatment, emergency intake, transport, and foster supplies are funded entirely by donations and modest adoption fees that recover only part of each animal's medical cost.

How every dollar is used

Because we are 100% volunteer-run with no paid staff and no brick-and-mortar shelter, the overwhelming majority of every donation goes directly into animal care. Our annual allocation breaks down as follows:

92%

Direct animal care

Veterinary treatment and surgery, vaccines, spay/neuter, medications, emergency intake, transport, food, and foster supplies.

6%

Programs & education

Free humane education in schools, low-cost vaccine and microchip clinics, adoption events, and adopter support resources.

2%

Essential administration

Nonprofit insurance, state charity registration, accounting, and the software required to run intake and adoptions.

Recent examples of donor-funded care

  • Emergency orthopedic surgery. A young shepherd mix pulled from a municipal shelter with an untreated femoral fracture received surgical repair and twelve weeks of foster rehabilitation before adoption.
  • Parvo treatment for a litter. Five puppies surrendered during an outbreak received isolation, IV fluids, and round-the-clock foster care. All five survived and were adopted.
  • Senior hospice fostering. Dogs over ten with chronic conditions receive ongoing medication and comfort care in volunteer homes rather than a kennel.
  • Community spay/neuter. Subsidized surgeries for families who would otherwise surrender an unaltered pet, preventing future litters from entering the shelter system.

Other ways to support the mission

Giving money is only one way to help. You can foster an animal in your home, volunteer at an adoption event or transport run, or adopt directly from our available animals — all of which advance the same mission at no cost to you.
