FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often.
How do I adopt a pet from Barks of Love?
Start by submitting an adoption application. Our team reviews each application, talks with you about your lifestyle, and arranges a meet-and-greet with the animal we believe is the best match.
What is the adoption fee?
Adoption fees typically range from $250 to $450 and cover spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and a vet check. Fees directly support continued rescue work.
Can I adopt if I rent my home?
Yes. We require written permission from your landlord confirming pets are allowed and any breed or weight restrictions.
Are my donations tax-deductible?
Yes. Barks of Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 26-3647040. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
How is my donation used?
Donations fund veterinary care, food, foster supplies, emergency rescues, transport, and adoption services. As an all-volunteer organization, overhead is minimal.
Do you accept items besides money?
Yes. We welcome unopened food, clean blankets, crates, leashes, collars, and toys. Email info@boflar.org to coordinate a drop-off.
How does fostering work?
Fosters provide a safe room or home, love, and routine. We provide food, supplies, and full medical coverage. Foster terms range from a weekend to several months.
Can I foster if I have other pets?
Often yes. We carefully match foster animals to your home based on the species, temperament, and vaccine status of your existing pets.
What does the foster commitment cost?
Nothing. Barks of Love covers all medical care and supplies. You provide your time, attention, and a safe space.
What kinds of volunteer roles are available?
Foster homes, event volunteers, transport drivers, photographers, administrative support, fundraising, and community outreach. There is a role for almost any schedule and skill set.
Do I need experience to volunteer?
No. We provide training and pair new volunteers with experienced mentors. Compassion and reliability matter more than experience.
How do I report an animal in need of rescue?
Email info@boflar.org or call 714-282-1768 with the location and details. For immediate emergencies, contact your local animal control first.
Do you take owner surrenders?
We do when space and resources allow. Please email us with details so we can assess the situation and recommend next steps.
Do you have a physical shelter to visit?
No. Our animals live in private foster homes, which gives them a calmer environment. Meet-and-greets are scheduled by appointment or at our community adoption events.
How can I stay updated on your work?
Subscribe to email updates via our contact page to stay in the loop on rescues, adoptions, and events.
Is there a way to honor a pet or person with a donation?
Yes. Memorial and tribute gifts are warmly welcomed. Note the honoree's name when donating and we will follow up with an acknowledgement.
